Multi-scale mechanical characterization of an additively manufactured Fe-based glass-forming alloy
This study examines how specimen size and loading direction affect the mechanical response of an LPBF Fe-based metallic glass (Kuamet 6B2). Size- and orientation-dependent defects dominate strength and compliance, leading to pronounced anisotropic size effects in compression, while nanoindentation confirms that the bulk mechanical behavior is governed by defects rather than the amorphous matrix.
